Description
In October of 1997, the American Water Works Association Research Foundation andthe EPRI Community Environmental Center initiated a project to define an energyand water quality management system (EWQMS) standard. The objective of thestandard was to enable water utilities to assemble commercial, off-the-shelfsoftware (COTS) to solve the problem of scheduling their facilities whileminimizing energy use and simultaneously meeting water quality and otherconstraints. This paper reports on the results of the project, describes therequirements and models that were produced, and suggests the next steps to betaken to achieve the objective of having interchangeable components using COTS.
