The purpose of this paper is to show the decision-making process or steps involved in the design of an ozone facility for the expansion of the Alvarado Water Treatment Plant in the City of San Diego, California. Specific steps outlined are: treatment objectives; process design criteria; plant flow projections; location and number of contactors; gas dissolution system; contactor volume; contactor design and operation; ozone generator sizing; ozoner generator alternatives; and reilability of disinfection.
